Having a pair of arched, cusp-outlined splats, each scroll-carved and centred by a stylized mask, hung with tear-drop pendants, between scroll finial-ended uprights applied with split bobbin mouldings, panelled seat, raised on block and ball-turned front legs joined by a baluster and ball-turned front mid-stretcher, 46.5cm wide x 43cm deep x 101.5cm high, (18" wide x 16.5" deep x 39.5" high)

  • It is unusual for the scroll-finials to point outwards on this chair. T. Jellinek, Early British Chairs and Seats 1500 to 1700 (2009), p. 295, notes that 'on Yorkshire chairs the scroll terminals on the uprights seem invariably to face inwards'.
