A 16th century Renaissance walnut canopy bed
French, circa 1560-80
Having moulded frieze rails, raised on four corner posts, the headposts each of rectangular-section, fluted and acanthus-carved above a gladiator and a cherub-carved term, joined by a plain headboard, the endposts of square-section tapering form, again fluted and acanthus-carved above similar carved figures, including an angel, each headed by pierced S-scroll capitals, all joined by moulded base rails, on acanthus-carved front supports and linear-carved shaped rear supports, restorations, 144cm wide x 208cm deep x 248.5cm high, (56.5" wide x 81.5" deep x 97.5" high)
