Unlike most Pintupi artists, Tjapananka always painted with a 'landscape' perspective, often choosing to represent images of the country where he travelled as a younger man as both a stockman and police tracker, deliberately not infusing the work with any sacred significance. This major earlier painting was executed in the year prior to his winning of the Alice Prize, and four years prior to his winning of the 1999 Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Award. Upon seeing this work a number of years after it was painted at Niagara Galleries the artist commented that the two figures in the upper corners of the painting depicted himself and his wife, the well regarded painter Mitjili Napurrula.
