In the George II style with leaf-capped scroll handles and applied reeded border, the body engraved with the Royal coat-of-arms for the Prince of Wales and presentation inscription, "The gift of Edward, Prince of Wales to his Godson William Humble David Ward February 9th 1920", raised on a stepped circular foot, height 14.6cm, weight 13oz.

  • William Humble David Ward (b.1920) is the son of William Ward, 3rd Earl of Dudley and Lady Rosemary Millicent Sutherland-Levenson-Gower. Upon completing his degree at Christchurch, Oxford, Ward joined the Royal Hussars Regiment where he was injured on active service in World War II. Between 1942-43 Ward served as an Aide-de-Camp to Field Marshall Archibald Wavell, Viceroy of India.
    On the death of his father in 1969, Ward inherited the following titles: Baron Ward of Birmingham, Earl of Dudley and Viscount Ednam.

    Edward, Prince of Wales (1894-1972) is best known as King Edward VIII, famous for his abdication from the throne of Great Britain in December 1936 and subsequent marriage to American socialite, Wallis Simpson, in June 1937.
