Jewelled keyless wind lever movement with cut and compensated bi-metallic balance, white enamel dial with black Roman numerals, black outer minute track with Arabic numeral five minute divisions, spade hands, subsidiary dial at 6 for running seconds, engine turned round case with applied Russian Imperial coat of arms to front, engraving to inner case front reads 'PRESENTED TO P.T.Whitnall BY HIS IMPERIAL HIGHNESS The Grand Duke Michael of Russia on the occasion of his visit FOR THE CORONATION OF KING EDWARD VII JUNE 23.02', unsigned

  • Grand Duke Michael Mikhailovich of Russia (16 October 1861 – 26 April 1929) was a son of Grand Duke Michael Nicolaievich of Russia, and a first cousin of Alexander III of Russia. He followed a military career, but was banished from living in Russia when in 1891 he contracted a morganatic marriage with Countess Sophie of Merenberg. He spent the rest of his life living in exile in England and in the French Riviera, escaping the Russian Revolution.
