  • John Gould (1804-1881)FRS. Ornithologist and Bird Artist.
    Gould travelled with his wife to Australia in 1838 and stayed until 1840, travelling extensively. On his return, he published between 1840 and 1848, a seven volume master work entitled "Birds of Australia", containing over 600 illustrations of birds, many newly identified by Gould himself.
