Five late-18th century South Staffordshire enamel boxes
circa 1780-1800
The first of oval form, pale pink enamelled ground with metal hinge mount, the cover painted "A Token of Love" below a heart flanked by arrows and above a bow, a green oval example heightened with white cartouches painted with flowers, the cover painted with a bird perched on a branch, metal hinge mount, a circular example, with metal screw mount, the cover painted with a mother and three children in a landscape, pink enamelled base, a blue enamelled example, with metal screw mount, the cover painted with a white bird and heart and inscribed, "The gift of a friend", and a similar example, the cover painted "A Friend's Gift, green enamelled base; together with a continental green enamelled scent flask, probably German, circa 1780-1800, conventional form, heightened in white detailing flowers and painted cartouches to either side, one depicting a portrait of a woman and a portrait of a man opposite, metal mount and stopper, and a late-Victorian locket, engraved to both sides, hinging in half to reveal portraits of a man and woman under glass.
