Footnotes

  • Richard Dighton (1795-1880) was an English artist of the Regency period. He was from a family of artists; his father was Robert Dighton (1752–1814) and he had two brothers, Denis and Joshua. His series of West End portraits was started in 1817 and over the course of the next ten years he produced in excess of 100 etchings. From 1828 he settled and worked in Cheltenham and Worcester returning to London around the middle of the 19th century again producing watercolour portraits, and from 1835, lithographic portraits.

    George Lewis was born on 27 November 1797 a Ramsden Bellhouse, Essex. He was the secretary to the Master of the Horse to Queen Adelaide and Queen Victoria. he died on 7 November 1854.
