Footnotes

  • In 1972 Heuer launched a promotion with Viceroy cigarettes in which the public could buy an Autavia for $88, instead of the normal retail price of $200, when they sent in one end flap from a packet of Viceroy cigarettes. The model supplied featured the calibre 12 movement, black dial, red hands, white subsidiary dials and tachymeter bezel. The promotion was very popular so it ran from May to December in 1972.

Parnelli Jones, winner of the 1963 Indy 500, was sponsored by both Heuer and Viceroy and can be seen in the advertisements for the promotion which were printed in Life Magazine, Popular Science, and Popular Mechanics.
