Footnotes

  • RARE: no copy is recorded on ABPC of this three-volume edition of Becon's works, which he himself collected together and revised after his return from exile during Mary's reign. It includes his earliest works written as Theodore Basil, and his later polemics. "Becon's writings show a marked transformation in his views over time. His earliest works espouse a modified Lutheran theology while his last are decidedly Zwinglian, particularly regarding the sacraments. His homely and colloquial style, to which he undoubtedly owed his wide readership, attests the truth of his own estimate of his powers" (ODNB).
