Footnotes

  • The first edition of the first printed history of Spain, written by Rodericus, or Rodrigo Sánchez de Arévalo, Bishop of Zamora. It includes a geographical description of the country, and a history commencing from the Visigothic invasion of 414 A.D. to the beginning of the reign of King Enrique IV of Castile and Leon, to whom the work is dedicated. Rodericus died on 4 October 1470, "and it is unlikely that Han would have omitted all reference to the fact if he had not completed printing the book until after the author's death" (BMC).
