An ivory tusk carved in India
Circa 1900
Carved on both sides with scenes from everyday Indian life, including working the land, herding animals, milking cows, carrying water from a well, transporting produce, music and dancing, elephants and camels, supported on back to back carved elephants at one end and an elephant and a lion fighting at the other.

    The tusk was purchased in Africa at the turn of the last century by the present owner's father who took it with him to India where he had it carved, circa 1900.
