A Chinese baifurong soapstone Nagasena
Qing dynasty
The stone of creamy beige colour with a stripe of russet-red inclusion carved naturalistically into a string attached to the Arhat's robes, the Arhat with playful expression using a slender stick to clean his left ear, adorned in a loose fitting monastic robe and intricately etched with stylised foliate motifs, the stand carved out of a brown hardstone simulating vines.
11.8cm high (with stand)
