Two Gold-in-Quartz Specimens
Mother Lode District, California
The first, a slickenside specimen with a gleaming face of gold atop associates of arsenopyrite and pyrite in a white quartz matrix, gross weight 14.83 ozt and measuring 3 ¼ x 3 x 2 inches; together with another specimen having both slickenside growth on the face and gold veining visible on the sides, gross weight 11.84 ozt, measuring 4 x 3 x 1 ½ in.
Stated by the consignor to have been mined in the Mother Lode region, near Sutter's Mill, circa 1849.
