Carved California Tourmaline and 18K Gold Hummingbirds--"California Kolibri"

The three hummingbirds carved of multi-color California tourmaline, with 18K yellow gold beaks, removable from the matte finish frosted rock crystal quartz stylized flower above which they hover drinking nectar, unsigned. Measures 8 x 6 x 5in overall.
Accompanied by a June 1984 Lapidary Journal showing a similar piece commissioned with Gerhard Becker on the front cover containing an article on page 482 by Bill Larson entitled "The Hummingbird and Orchid" about the use of Himalaya Mine, San Diego County, California tourmalines to depict California ruby throated hummingbirds which followed his 1981 discovery of some very large rubellite, pink and bicolor tourmalines that the Himalaya Mine had produced.
