Mandarin Garnet
Kunene River, Namibia
Popularly called "mandarin" garnet as the color resembles that of the citrus fruit, this variety of spessartite garnet is unmodified by brown or yellow. Named after its original source in Spessart, Germany the most well-known deposits are presently found in Africa. The present stone comes from a very sought-after locality, much rarer than the Nigerian deposit. Spessartite garnets of this vivid orange color, with good clarity, normally do not exceed a few carats in weight. This is a large stone for the species with exemplary color.
Weighing approximately 11.26 carats and measuring 14.29 x 11.1 x 7.2mm
