Flower and Calligraphy
Two scrolls, the first of flowers, ink and color on paper, mounted for framing, inscribed and signed Dayu, followed by three rectangular seals of the artist reading Dayu (2) and Chen Dayu; the second a scroll of running script calligraphy, ink on paper, mounted for framing, inscribed and dated yisi (1965), signed Chen Dayu, followed by one rectangular seal of the artist reading Chen Dayu.

Footnotes

  • Although originally from Chaoyang, Guangdong Province, Chen Dayu studied painting in Shanghai and then in Beijing as a student of Qi Baishi. He later taught at Nanjing Academy. In celebration of the centennial year of his birth in 2012, his paintings were recently featured in a solo exhibition at the National Art Museum of China (NAMOC) and the Guangdong Museum of Art.
