Footnotes
Produced for export in the 18th and 19th centuries, gouache images of tea, silk and porcelain production were popularly produced by studios of artists working in the thriving port of Guangdong. While illustrating scenes of Chinese commerce and agricultural production, these painted images would use the gouache medium to imitate the aesthetics of an oil on canvas.
