Qing Yongzheng Period, 1735
Ink on silk woven with a pattern of scattered ruyi-clouds, mounted as a handscroll, written in Manchu and Han script, the text opening with a four -character title Feng Tian Gao Ming or by command of Heaven, flanked by a pair of dragons, followed by a long inscription, stamped with two large seals. 11 3/4 x 104in (29.8 x 264.2cm)

Footnotes

  • The present edict is dated to the 3rd day of the 9th month of the 13th year of the Yongzheng period, and proclaims the special commendation and promotion of an official to higher rank. Compliments have also been made to his wife for being faithful and moral to the family.
