Belonging to the first series of Edward Piguet tourbillon models to be fitted with a mineral crystal plate, this present reference was introduced at the SIHH in Geneva in 2001. This is an exceptional piece and each may be regarded as unique because of the natural patterns and structure of the natural rutilated quartz. Traditional machining techniques could not be employed so abrasive liquid suspension was utilized that abraded the mineral crystal at a milimetre per hour. The combination of modern technology harnessed to create the cutting process for this dial, the classical grand complication of the one-minute tourbillon and the sophisticated Art Deco curves of the Edward Piguet case yields an exceptional timepiece for the discerning collector.

Rutilated quartz is a quartz stone with rutile inclusions that have long thin fibres of colour that range from red to silver. Believed to have energizing metaphysical powers, rutilated quartz has long been used for feng shui and talisman purposes.
