    不同於傳統文人,齊白石是農家子弟出身,早年當過木匠,後來接連遇上好幾位良師益友,令其繪畫的天分得以發揮,終成大器。他的畫藝畫境提煉於生活,他畫花鳥草蟲即是畫他的童年,故能表現出其崇尚拙樸自然的天性,和難能可貴的童心,也令他的花鳥草蟲畫獨領風騷。據此,陳傳席將齊白石評為一代畫聖,並引述《老子》之言,說「白石的童心流露於畫,故其畫亦為『天下溪』,而致天下之畫莫能與之爭。」(參見陳傳席《畫壇點將錄》,三聯書店,香港,2006年,頁61。)此件齊白石〈花卉草蟲〉冊頁八開,工寫結合,清新自然,將白石畫中的天真和童趣展現無遺,甚是妙哉。
