A boxwood figure of Shoulao
Mid Qing dynasty
The bearded god of Immortality modelled standing atop a rounded rockwork base, holding a fig in his left hand and combing through his beard with his right hand, dressed in a long sleeve robe with a scalloped apron and a double-gourd flask tied to the right side of his garment belt, the deeper tones of the wood exceptionally utilized to highlight the deity's delicate features and serene expression.
