An Edward Farmer silver-mounted amethyst pot and cover
Qing dynasty
The original semi-precious stone worked on the exterior in high relief, a toad and a bird amidst fruiting peaches issuing from gnarled stems, the stone of semi-translucent with varying shades of purple, later mounted in sterling silver forming a hollowed removable circular container with hinged cover, all above a stand with wide base decorated with embossed leafy vines.
