An archaic bronze ritual tripod vessel and cover, ding
Eastern Zhou dynasty Rising on three study feet, the compressed globular vessel wasited at the middle, flanked on the sides with straight angled handles, surmounted at the top with a flattened cover with three circular ring handles, cast all over the exterior with various archaistic scrolls. 35.6cm high. (2).
The vessel is of a standard form with rounded body drawn into a constricted lip, one which sits a shallow domed lid. The vessel is always supported on three legs and carries two U-shaped handles which emerged from the sides before abruptly turning upwards. The differences between vessels are usually found on the finial in relief and archaistic scrolls on the exterior surface of the vessel.
