A large Yixing appliqué-decorated 'lion' teapot and cover
Early Qing dynasty Of compressed globular form rising from a slightly recessed foot, applied with a loop handle set opposite a swan neck spout, the body appliqué-decorated on each side with a pair of chi dragons above a detach sprig of peony, the cover surmounted by a finial in the form of two recumbent lion dogs with their feathery bodies deftly incised. 22.8cm wide. Yixing stoneware teapots of this particular type were usually made for European market and sometimes were mounted with European silverworks or enamelled with famille rose.
