An Yixing 'roundel' teapot and cover
Early Qing dynasty
Of compressed circular form supported on a gently splayed foot, applied with a delicate loop handle opposite a swan-neck spout, a roundel of birds enclosed within a circular panel on both sides, the dome cover surmounted by a compressed knop.

  • The compressed circular form is often found on blanc-de-chine teapots produced during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, see a blanc-de-chine teapot dated to the early seventeenth century from collection of the National Palace Museum, Taipei, Empty Vessels, Replenished Minds: The Culture, Practice and Art of Tea, Taipei, 2002, p.104, pl.83.
