An Yixing 'bamboo' teapot and cover

signed Chen Zhongmei
Naturalistically potted in the form of bamboo bunched and tied at the waist, issuing a spout and a C-shaped handle on opposing sides, the well-fitted irregular-shaped cover also surmounted by a bamboo knop, the base with kaishu inscription including the name of the artist.

陳仲美款段泥束竹柴圓壺

「萬曆癸丑，陳仲美作」

壺作作束竹式，短直流及單耳把皆為竹筒式，壺蓋、壺鈕飾以竹節。壺身由十六根竹節組成，中間束以藤條，竹筒表面天然紋理及裂縫均細緻修飾而出。壺底陰刻「萬曆癸丑，陳仲美作」楷書款。

陳仲美為明代萬曆、天啟年間宜興紫砂陶名手，生卒不詳，擅將瓷雕藝術和製壺工藝結合，有「類鬼工」之譽，但其傳世作品極為少見。羅桂祥藏一件束竹柴圓壺，與本壺幾乎無異，見香港藝術館編，《宜興紫砂陶器茶具文物館羅桂祥珍藏》，香港，2002年，頁63，圖版12。另參看譚敬、杜月笙舊藏一例陳仲美款紫泥摻沙仿古方盂，後於香港邦瀚斯拍賣，2012年5月27日，拍品546。此壺雖精工，然較仲美傳器尚欠火候，或為偽託款。
