    Collection of Margaret Goldney

It is rare to find a porcelain snuff bottle of such large size, particularly one with such high quality moulded and enamelled decoration. The combination of bats and double-gourds is particularly auspicious. For a smaller Qianlong reign-marked porcelain snuff bottle of similar form, with bold iron-red bats closely related to those on the current bottle, see a bottle from the Mary and George Bloch collection, illustrated by Moss, Graham and Tsang, A Treasury of Chinese Snuff Bottles, Vol.6, Arts of the Fire, Hong Kong, 2008, pp. 333-335, no. 1152 and sold in these rooms, 23 November 2010, lot 94.
