Footnotes

  • Leo approched Peter for the commissioned work after a discussion with the President of Mercedes (at the time) in regards to getting a historical painting of earley Mercedes racing done to celebrate the new Mercedes Headquarters in Montvale, New Jersey. Peter responded with six renditions of Ralph DePalma's greatest victories for Mercedes including 3 different Indianapolis pieces and 3 Vanderbilt cup pieces. This one was the test that was chosen and the full size completed version still resides in the headquaters today.
