This present lot is accompanied by the publication 'The Most Fabulous Jewels in The World', Graff Diamonds, autographed by Laurance Graff.
Diamond Like Carbon or DLC is fast gaining popularity as one of the material treatments for contemporary timepieces. Considered as the more durable of the coating processes, DLC is apparently corrosion and wear resistant, using a similar technique to that involved in the production of synthetic diamonds. Multi-layers of high energy precursive carbon pigment are applied to the surface metal in a vacuum and then rapidly cooled down. In comparison, PVD or Physical Vapour Deposition involves the same process of application in a vacuum, however, the pigments used are not specified and may be less resistant such as nickel or ceramic.
