Patek Philippe produced the reference 5040 from 1992 until approximately 2008. This complicated perpetual calendar is a highly recognisable timepiece with its striking black dial, applied Breguet numerals and unique tonneau shaped case. Housed within this present reference is Calibre 240 Q, which was discontinued after over two decades of production. Calibre 240 Q can be found also in the ever popular Reference 3940 perpetual calendar, which was produced in much greater quantity than this rarer Reference 5040, hence increasing collectibility of the latter. In particular, the white gold examples of the reference 5040 are considered the rarest to the collectors' market.
