In 1865, Charles Reuge established his first musical pocket-watch shop in Sainte-Croix. One of his key inventions was the integration of a musical cylinder and a miniature comb into a watch movement. Reuge is regarded by many as being at the production forefront for high-end musical watch automata movements and singing birds boxes since the nineteenth century. This present lot is a fine example of the complications that Reuge is renowned for, with its exquisite enamel scene, detailed three-tone five moving automata and harmonious musical 17 note composition wound using a lyre-shaped key.
