The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak series is regarded by many as the quintessential sports watch. The iconic design revered by horological connoisseurs is instantly recognizable with its structured strongbox case with structurally integral octagonal bezel secured by eight hexagonal screws. Another signature guilloched dials with the Grande Tapisserie motif. Launched in 1972 and designed by Gerald Genta, the design of the Royal Oak remains timeless until today. It is said that the bezel was inspired by the octagonal port holes of the HMS Royal Oak, the British Royal Navy ship on which Charles II took refuge during the English Civil War. In keeping with the nautical influence, the City of Sails Be Happy was produced to commemorate the first Swiss America's Cup Team in 2000. With just 300 pieces in existence, this charming and jolly timepiece sports a rich blue dial and striking yellow hands and numerals.
