- Waterloo Bridge was another favourite with the public. Old Waterloo Bridge, demolished in 1938-1939, appears several times in Nevinson's prints of the 1920's. In 1924 he was appalled by a proposal to have the bridge widened, describing it as "the most beautiful bridge in the world...Widen it and you destroy its proportion. Destroy its proportion and you destroy its beauty", a surprising attitude for an ex-Futurist who had once advocated that all that was traditional and hallowed in British society ought to be swept away.
