PROVENANCE: Painted at Milingimbi, Central Arnhem Land in the early 1960s Private collection, New Zealand Lawson-Menzies, Aboriginal Fine Art, Sydney, 23 May 2007, lot 44 Private collection
Cf. The crucifixion painting compares well with some of the figures in the top left of the Milingimbi Easter Panel at the National Gallery of Australia (the Yirritja side) in Franchesca Cubillo, and Wally Caruana (eds.), Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art: Collection highlights, National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, 2010, pp.124-5. There are a number of artists who collaborated on the Milingimbi Easter Panel although this example is comparable to the hand of Jonnie Daynganggan (1892-deceased) or Lipundja No.2 (born 1932).
