A fine pair of giltwood eagle console tables originally from Kilkenny Castle in Ireland
Second quarter 18th century
Each with a verde antico veneered rectangular marble top, above a Vitruvian-scroll frieze, on an eagle with outspread wings standing on a rocky base, on ebonised rectangular plinth with stepped corners, areas of re-gilding, 115cm wide, 61cm deep, 83.5cm high (45in wide, 24in deep, 32.5in high).

Provenance: the pair of tables are by repute originally from Kilkenny Castle, but we can not confirm that they were in fact lots 1763 and 2463 in the 1935 sale of the castle contents as stated in the catalogue.
