A fine 18th century carved ivory oliphant/hunting horn
Probably Portuguese
With a mouthpiece at the tip of the horn emerging from fanged jaws of a dog, carved throughout in low relief depicting a wild boar hunt in a wooded landscape, with a European figure on horseback and a pack of dogs attacking the boar whilst two further figures attack with spears, with a hole at either end for a carrying strap, 55cm long
