An inside-painted agate snuff bottle
Meng Zishou, dated 1909
Of compressed ovoid form, with a flat lip, wide mouth, waisted neck and a flat oval foot, the inside painted with fish, watergrass, and an inscription reading "Jiyou, Meng Zishou executed" followed by a painted seal.

    Meng Zishou was active in Beijing in the first two decades of the twentieth century. While skilled at depicting landscapes and portraits, he also produced many bottles of fish swimming amid water weeds, as seen in this example and later in lot 142 in this sale.
