A mogami do tosei gusoku armour
Edo Period, 18th/19th century, the helmet signed by Joshu ju Saotome Ienao, Momoyama Period, 16th century
The sixty-two-plate hoshi bachi in russet-iron signed Joshu (Hitachi) ju Saotome Ieno, mounted with a six-stage mixed metal tehen kanamono, on the front a maedate of a horned shishi; a ko manju shikoro of iron; the leather covered fukigaeshi with a shakudo kashi mon possibly of the Yamanouchi family; russet-iron ressei menpo with hair moustache and a three lame yodarekake, mogami chu-sode, tsutsu gote and a typical go mai mogami do with fine shakudo gyoyo, shino haidate and o-tateage suneate; black-lacquered overall and laced in pale green sugake odoshi; together with an armour box and stand.
