A gold lacquer and metal-inlaid five-case inro

Bearing a kinji ground, lacquered with pine trees, rocks and a waterfall in gold takamakie and togidashi with kirikane highlights, finely inlaid with Jurojin and a deer in gold, copper and shakudo takazogan, an attendant in similar style on the reverse and the interior of nashiji, signed for the lacquer Seiken saku, and for the metalwork Noriyuki; with mixed-metal ojime of a shojo seated, holding a sakazuki over his head, signed in a silver tablet Isso.

There were a number of generations of sword-fitting makers of the Hamano family using the name Noriyuki/Kuzui, and the present example is one of the later members of the family, who turned their hand to making other objects or working with lacquerers, as seen here.
