Of oval form, inlaid in glazed pottery with two running figures of Prince Genji and a retainer, the reverse with a large flaming drum and curtain amid falling maple leaves of red lacquer, signed on an inlaid pottery tablet Rissai.

    The scene illustrates an episode in Chapter 7 Momiji no ga (Autumn outing) of the Genji Monogatari (The Tales of Genji), by Murasaki Shikibu.

    The design is taken from a manuscript of Genji Kokagami, dated to the Enpou Period (1673-1681). The manuscript is composed of 37 chapters in five volumes. It is in the collection of Staatliches Museum für Völkerkunde München in Germany. The inventory number is 12-Cod.jap.14.
