A gold lacquer three-case inro
By Kanshosai, after a design by Hogen Eisen, 19th century
The kinji ground decorated in gold hiramakie and takamakie with details in kirikane and e-nashiji with an owl perched on a pine branch on one side and the crescent moon, partly obscured by clouds on the reverse, the interior of rich nashiji, signed Hogen Eisen ga with kakihan, Kanshosai with kao; with gilt-metal ojime in the form of a stylised sparrow, unsigned.
