A study of a courtesan
Bikaner, early 18th century
Ink and wash on paper; with her hands clutching at her diaphanous veil, her face coveys the suggestion of excitement with her smiling mouth exposing her teeth. She is adorned with modest but significant jewels, the lower half of her sari is incomplete.
