A bronze figure of Vishnu
Sylhet region, Bangladesh, circa 8th century
Standing in a hieratic pose of samabhanga on a spreading platform base and framed by an arched prabhamandala and a raised and beaded-edge nimbus. His lower hands hold a wheel and mace, while the upper left hand offers a boon. He wears a long pleated dhoti, a short jaynopavita across his torso and a zoomorphic pendant between his raised nipples. His oversized head is rendered with deeply incised eyes, broad nose and full lips, and he wears a beaded three-leaf crown around a layered coiffure.
