A sandstone head of Bhairava
Central India, 10th/11th century
Superbly carved with finely delineated hair rising to a tall coiffure of matted locks arranged in a dome and adorned with a U-shaped ornament with a quadripartite jewel. His terrifying face defined by bulging eyes and gaping mouth exposing fangs and beard of small curls.
