A set of nine William IV bronze alloy Imperial measures, for the County of Cumberland, dated 1835
With pre-Imperial 'WIIII 1824' verification cipher; by De Grave, London
All numbered 796 (the quart incorrectly stamped 769), to measure a Peck, a Gallon, a Half Gallon, a Quart, a Pint, a Half Pint, a Gill, a Half Gill and a Quarter Gill (the latter by Doyle & Son, London, and dated 1893), Peck diameter 28cm, together with the matching William IV boxed brass alloy Imperial Yard, by De Grave, London, engraved 'IMPERIAL YARD, COUNTY OF CUMBERLAND, 1835', and numbered 796, with conforming verification marks, in a mahogany box lacking brass maker's plaque, (11)
- The pre-Imperial verification mark reads 'GIV 1824', not 'WIII 1824' as catalogued.
Please note that the Half Gallon example is numbered '796' but is dated 1883, and this set is thus not complete.
