"I see myself as a troubleshooter, a problem solver, a gun for hire, a fixer of design problems"

Marc Newson, interviewed on Designophy.com, November 2009

Undoubtedly one of the most successful designers of his generation, Australian Marc Newson is also arguably the most versatile. Over the last two decades he has turned his hand from everything to bicycles to cars, from aeroplanes to yachts, as well as producing many iconic items of furniture. Many of his designs blur the lines between furniture and sculpture, the Black Hole Table an obvious example of this, with Newson constantly pushing the boundaries between concepts of functionality and beauty. In addition, the current lot features Newson's innovative use of materials, for as well as being visually striking the table is incredibly light, the grand proportions of its sleek, sharp contours belying its feather-light weight.
