Mendi "Compensation" Dolls, Southern Highlands, Papua New Guinea

made in the tradition with pandanus leaves, bilum string, human hair, shells, and seeds with ground clays for additional color.
These dolls represent individuals killed requiring revenge from their fellow villagers. Once order was restored these dolls were often destroyed.
