Footnotes

  • In 1969 Triumph's first six-cylinder TR sports car - the short-lived TR5 - was restyled by Karmann of Osnabruck. The resulting TR6 sported a full-width nose and squared-off tail but under the skin the chassis remained basically the same as its independently-rear-suspended TR4A ancestor's, while the 2.5-litre Lucas fuel-injected power unit was unchanged. Handling was improved over that of the TR5 courtesy of wider wheels and a front anti-roll bar. Good for 120mph with acceleration to match, the six-cylinder TRs are arguably the most exciting Triumphs ever made, continuing to enjoy an enthusiastic following worldwide and an excellent network of spare parts and service providers. TR6 production ceased in 1976, by which time Triumph's last traditional sports car had been superseded by the unitary construction TR7.

A desirable, overdrive-equipped model, this TR6 was purchased at Bonhams' Harrogate sale in November 2004 (Lot 647A) at which time it was described as apparently benefiting from a well executed 'ground upwards' restoration undertaken in 2002. Since acquisition in 2004, 'BLG 380K' has covered only some 2,000 miles and during that time has received a new clutch, Dunlop tyres, fuel tank and brake callipers. Benefiting from correct maintenance and a recent service, the car is described as in generally good condition and offered with sundry service invoices, MoT/tax to September 2013 and Swansea V5C document.
