According to information supplied by the vendor, this painting was purchased from John Trendler, who founded the Biggles enthusiasts' magazine, 'Biggles & Co.' Trendler was an authority on W.E. Johns and his books and it is a matter of speculation as to whether this painting is by Johns, whose illustrations appeared in flying magazines in the 1920s and '30s.
